Course Information

Description

Principles of operation of electrical and electronic test equipment and applications to measurement of circuit parameters. Transient and steady state response of RLC networks. Applications of laws and theories of circuits. Design, prototyping, and testing of electronic devices and circuits.

Why take this course?

This is the first laboratory experience for all EE and CpE students in which they learn to design and build real circuits based on the theoretical and analytical concepts developed in 2004 and 2204.

Required for all EE and CPE majors

Prerequisites

2074; Corequisite: 2204

The laboratory design projects are based on basic circuit and electronics theory as taught in ECE 2004 and ECE 2204. The projects are closely aligned with the lecture material. The student must have completed ECE 2004 and be enrolled in ECE 2204 and 2204 to begin the laboratory studies.

Major Measurable Learning Objectives

  • Operate digital oscilloscopes, ammeters, voltmeters, function generators, and power supplies
  • Wire circuits on a breadboard
  • Design and build circuits using BJTs, FETs, and op-amps
  • Design and build high and low-pass filters and active filters
  • Measure voltages and currents in these circuits
  • Acquire data from these circuits and store them on a computer via an IEEE 488 bus
  • Model the circuits in pSpice
