ECE 2204 Electronics (3C)

Introduction to basic electronic devices including diodes and transistors and their operating principles. Analysis of electroic circuits operating under dc bias and switching conditions. Applications of devices in digital electronic circuits.

What is the reason for this course?

Electronics is the introduction to electronic devices and their basic operating principles and is the foundation for modern electrical and computer engineering. Devices including diodes, bipolar junction transistors (BJTs), and field effect transistors (FETs) are the basic components of all electronic circuits. Major applications will focus on digital logic circuits using diodes and transistors, especially the complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) devices. Throughout the course, students will learn how the electronic devices operate under dc bias and switching conditions.

Required for all EE and CPE majors. Typically offered: Fall, Spring, Summer II. Program Area: Electronics.

Prerequisites: C- or better in 2004; Co-requisites: 2274.

Why are these prerequisites or corequisites required?

This course requires 2004 as the prerequisite and 2274 as the corequisite. Students require a basic knowledge of circuit analysis such as nodal and loop analyses as taught in 2004 to analyze the electronic circuits. 2274 is corequisite because it implements, in the laboratory, the principles learned in 2004 and 2204.
