Cognitive Radios and Networks

Cognitive Radios Image

Cognitive radios are aware of their environment and intelligently adapt their performance to the user’s needs. The cognitive radios group seeks to develop and demonstrate new principles in wireless network design by incorporating cognition into radio and network operation.

Wireless and Social Networking

As communication networks become pervasive, it will become increasingly important to study them within the larger social and spatial context. Wireless social networks will evolve jointly to meet this emergent need; VT is developing the science and engineering principles to support this vision.

Advanced Research in Information Assurance and Security

The Advanced Research in Information Assurance and Security (ARIAS) lab is a research group within the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech. It was established in 2003, and its mission is to study and solve challenging security problems in networks and computer systems.

MANIAC Challenge

MANIAC Challenge

The MANIAC Challenge (Mobile Ad-hoc Networking Interoperability And Cooperation) investigates cooperation and selfishness in ad hoc networks. The competition is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to better understand cooperation and interoperability in ad hoc networks.
