NEW STUDENT PROJECTS THAT ARE IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE TO ECE SENIORS

TEST TRACK EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN SYSTEM: The purpose of this project is to develop and validate a robust emergency shutdown system that functions at any location on the Smart Road test track. Existing wired and wireless systems available on the road and within the vehicles may be leveraged.

CONNECTED VEHICLE CELLULAR APPLICATIONS: This project will leverage existing connected vehicle systems available at VTTI to design and integrate a cellular-based communication backbone and prototype connected vehicle applications.

IMPROVING RELATIVE POSITIONING FOR CONNECTED VEHICLE: For some installations, GPS antennas cannot be readily mounted in clear-view of the sky. The purpose of this project is to develop and test methods for improving performance under such circumstances.

WIRELESS SENSOR INTERFACE FOR DATA ACQUISITION: The purpose of this project is to develop a reliable wireless interface for integrating existing sensors (accelerometers, radar, video, etc.) into the VTTI Data Acquisition System (DAS) used to test prototype GM vehicles.

DEVELOP POWER SOURCE FOR REMOTE SENSING: This project is focused on developing a remote power source for such sensors. Specifically for this project, the sensor of primary interest is a miniature video camera. Camera should be capable of operating for extended periods of time capturing video from key-on to key-off for a typical driver over a three to twelve month period. Capturing energy (e.g. solar) is suggested.
