Bio Patrick Schaumont is Assistant Professor in Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech. He received the PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from UCLA (2004), and the MS degree in Computer Science from Rijksuniversiteit Ghent, Belgium (1990). He has been a researcher with UCLA's Embedded Security group from 2001 to 2004, and a researcher at the Inter-university Micro-Electronics Center (IMEC) in Belgium from 1992 to 2001. His research area includes design methods and architectures for embedded systems, with an emphasis on the design of hardware and software for secure embedded systems. He has received an NSF CAREER award, and has several active grants in the area of secure embedded system design. He has served as guest editor for two Special Issues on Secure Embedded Systems Design, one in IEEE Design and Test Magazine, and a second in ACM Transactions on Reconfigurable Technology and Systems. He has served on the program committee of international conferences in this field such as CHES, DATE, DAC, IEEE HOST and IEEE MEMOCODE. He is currently serving as program chair for MEMOCODE 2009. He is a senior member of the IEEE.
