Networking

Research in networking includes aspects of network protocols, network security, wireless networks, network management, network support for mobile and pervasive computing, sensor networks, quality of service, and performance evaluation.

Some specific research topics include multimedia delivery over wireless and video sensor networks, policy-based network management to provide quality of service in mobile networks, design and analysis of routing protocols for mobile ad hoc networks, security in ad hoc and mobile networks, network traffic prediction and dynamic bandwidth allocation, and multiple access protocols for emerging wireless technologies.

Networking researchers collaborate with faculty and students from across the university through the Integrated Research and Education in Advanced Networking (IREAN) program. Networking faculty and students also participate in specific multidisciplinary research projects on topics such as the use of smart antenna technology in wireless ad hoc networks, architectures and protocols for rapidly-deployed broadband wireless networks, evaluation of land mobile radio systems, and unified power and communications infrastructures.

Integrated Research and Education in Advanced Networking (IREAN website)

IREAN allows students to work with technology developers and advanced users from industry and government on multidisciplinary research involving broadband wireless access, mobile access to Internet resources and applications, Internet appliances, quality of service, heterogeneous network security, and management of large-scale networks.

Laboratory for Advanced Networking (LAN website)

The Laboratory for Advanced Networking is an affiliation of faculty and students conducting research and offering courses in networking. The group's expertise and interests include wireless networks, quality of service, network management, sensor networks, network support for mobile and pervasive computing, networked application, and network simulation.

Wireless Internet Networking Group (WING website)

The Wireless Internet Networking Group (WING) is a part of the Laboratory for Advanced Networking umbrella that researches wireless networking in WAN (3G/4G), LAN (IEEE 802.11) and PAN (personal area networks) at one end to wireless Ad Hoc and sensor networks at the other. The group focuses on networking platforms, protocols, and application architectures.

Complex Network and System Research Group (website)

This group focuses on algorithmic design and analysis, and cross-layer optimization for emerging networks systems. The current research area of teh group includes wireless ad hoc networks, sensor networks, and video over dynamic ad hoc networks.
