Building a MagLev System With Student TechnologyFor more than seven years, teams of students have been working to develop commercial personal rapid transit technology based on Virginia Tech's switched-reluctance maglev design.Students work in interdisciplinary teams and can earn course credit as part of the Virtual Corporation, which is based on a corporate model. Teams and systems change each semester depending upon the project's status. Students have developed a unique electric porpulsion system and successfully tested levitation, propulsion, and guidance systems.
