Tenure-track faculty position in upper atmospheric space science

The Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech seeks applications for a tenure-track faculty position in upper atmospheric space science. All ranks will be considered. The successful candidate will become a key member of the interdisciplinary Center for Space Science and Engineering Research (www.space.vt.edu). The Center’s current research focus includes ground-based HF radar measurements, space-based mission design, instrument design and remote sensing, empirical and advanced computational modeling of the upper atmospheric space environment, ground based magnetometer measurements and space data analysis. The candidate is expected to be a significant contributor to the continued growth of the Center through development of a vigorous funded research program and a specialized graduate curriculum. The candidate is also expected to contribute to the broader research and educational mission of the ECE Department.

  • An earned PhD with research in space science or a related field is required and must be completed prior to employment.
  • The candidate is expected to have expertise in either space-based instrumentation (e.g. satellites or sounding rockets), ground-based instrumentation (e.g. radar, lidar, optical, or GPS), or computational modeling of the space environment (MHD or PIC).
  • Prior experience in the role of PI or Co-PI on funded research projects is desirable.
  • The candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a nationally recognized funded research program, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and participate in department, college and/or university service and outreach activities.

Please see http://www.ece.vt.edu for a complete description of the ECE department.
