Multiple conductor cables are commonly found in the Oil & Gas industry to provide physical support, power, and telemetry communications for downhole tools used for obtaining measurements pertaining to the characteristics of the rock formation and to the presence of hydrocarbons. Heptacables, in particular, are used due to their large power carrying capabilities and multiple transmission modes for communications. Following a brief introduction to the types of measurements obtained by downhole tools, this presentation will focus on techniques used to achieve large telemetry data rates using multichannel DMT communications.
