March 30, 2010 — ECE Ph.D. students Mehdi Nikkhah and Bassam Alfeeli have received awards recognizing their accomplishments as graduate students.

Mehdi Nikkhah has been named Graduate Man of the Year by the Virginia Tech Graduate School. This award recognizes students with high academic achievement who have contributed their research, teaching, and scholarship to Virginia Tech and demonstrated a strong commitment to professional organizations, campus activities, and diversity.

Bassam Alfeeli tied for first place in oral presentation at the Graduate Student Association’s 2010 Research Symposium. The oral presentation contest asks students to present their research results and answer questions from students and faculty. The prize for first place was $500.

ECE assistant professor Masoud Agah serves as advisor to both Nikkhah and Alfeeli.
